Cat neuters are a procedure perfromed in male cats that involves removing the testicles. Generally, the primary purpose is to prevent the birth of unwanted kittens. While this procedure may be performed on any age of cat, typically this surgery is performed on cats between 5 to 8 months of age.
There are a number of secondary benefits (mostly behavior in origin) that are reduced or eliminated by neutering.
-
Spraying or marking our homes with urine as a means to identify their territory
-
Fighting with other cats to establish territory
-
Roaming is generally reduced
-
General aggression
-
Testicular cancer (generally rare in the cat, but it does occur)
Statistically, neutered animals live longer. The reason is they don't tend to get into as much trouble from fighting or being hit by car while roaming and establishing their territory.
Would you like to see a video of the procedure your cat will undergo? The video has been edited for the sake of time so you will be watching all the main points but will not be watching the entirety of the time consuming elements such as suturing. Enjoy.
